General Instructions

Welcome to the WCU online application for undergraduate admission. This application is designed to allow you to 1) complete and submit your application electronically, or 2) print and mail the application in a more traditional manner. In addition you must submit an application fee of $40. Payment instructions are found at the end of the application.

When your application is received, you are on your way to being considered for undergraduate enrollment at WCU.

Note: the $40 application fee will be waived under the following conditions:

    1. You have been enrolled previously for undergraduate courses at WCU.
    2. You have filed an application for admission and have paid the undergraduate application fee within the previous two calendar years.

Freshman applicants

Have your high school counselor send an official transcript of all work completed to the Office of Admissions at WCU. It often speeds the evaluation and review process if your application is mailed directly from the high school with your transcripts.

Submit scores earned on the College Entrance Examination Board SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or the American College Testing Program (ACT). If your high school cannot provide these score, you should have them sent directly from the testing agency. The College Board code for WCU is 5897. The ACT code for WCU is 3172. Scores may be requested as follows:

SAT:

Princeton, NJ 08540

ACT:

Transfer & Distance Learning Applicants

Request that all colleges and universities where you have registered for courses send and official transcript to the Office of Admissions. A separate transcript must be sent from each college. Transfer students who have completed less that thirty transferable semester hours at the time of application will also be required to meet the freshman conditions listed above. All transfer students who have not earned an associate or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution must submit high school records and SAT/ACT scores.

Former students / Readmissions / Former Distance Learning

Any student who was not enrolled at WCU for the previous fall or spring semester must apply for readmission. If another college or university has been attended since the previous enrollment at WCU, transcripts of this work must be received before readmission status can be determined.

Non-Degree / Teacher certification students

Non-degree students are those who wish to take courses for personal enrichment or advancement rather than to earn a degree at WCU. Non-degree students are not admitted to any degree program, are not eligible for financial assistance, are not assigned to advisers, and may not live in campus housing.

Dual enrollment students

Dual enrollment students are those students who plan to take courses at WCU while currently enrolled in a local high school. Applicants must submit a letter of parental consent, a letter of permission from their high school principal or guidance counselor, SAT or ACT scores, and an official high school transcript. Dual enrollment students are not admitted to a degree program, are not eligible for financial assistance, are not assigned to advisers, and may not live in campus housing.

Transient students

Transient students and visitors who attend WCU for only one semester. They are planning to take work which will be used for a degree or program at another institution. Transient students must re-apply for each semester in which they wish to register for courses at WCU and submit an updated transient approval from their home college indicating current good standing. Transient students are not eligible for financial aid, or adviser assignments from WCU. Transient students are eligible for campus housing on a space-available basis.

International students

International students are welcome at the university. Students must apply for admission and submit all credentials sufficiently in advance of the first term of enrollment to allow for evaluation thirty days before the beginning of that term. A satisfactory score (550 or higher) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and evidence of financial responsibility are required. Students may enroll in English 131 and English 132, which are specifically designed for international students. Further information is available from the Office of Admissions, Graduate School, or the international student adviser in the Office for Student Development.
