Southwestern CC and the Western Regional Center for Excellence in
Teaching are hosting a professional development event from 2 - 5 pm
today, April 27th, in Myers' Auditorium on SCC's campus in Sylva.
Faculty from Western are invited to attend.
Stephen Brookfield, author of nine books on adult learning, teaching and
critical thinking, will offer guests a motivational speech, sharing his
research and experience on fostering critical reflection in dynamic
college classrooms. After 10 years as a Professor of Higher and Adult
Education at Columbia University, he now holds the title of
Distinguished Professor at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
Participants will receive a copy of Brookfield's Becoming a Skillful
Teacher: On Technique, Trust and Responsiveness in the Classroom. The
author will host a booksigning following the event.
