All,
Level 3 and their equipment manufacturer determined that a software bug
allowed BGP between their route reflectors to fail. The equipment
manufacturer is developing a software patch to correct the problem, and
the patch should be available in two days and will be tested before
being applied to the production network. As a workaround, a filter was
deployed to block the offending announcement which caused the outage.
Level 3 NOC technicians were given explicit instructions on how to
diagnose and repair this issue should it happen again before the
software patch is applied. We apologize for any inconvenience this may
